On Monday June 13th, the Maine Department of Transportation and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation are hosting an informational meeting to update the public on the status, schedule and activities of the Sarah Mildred Long (SML) Bridge Replacement Project.
There will be presentations explaining the progress of the project followed by a Q&A. Maine and New Hampshire DOT representatives, along with bridge construction contractor Cianbro, will be available to answer questions and discuss additional details.
While the $170 million new bridge is expected to open in September of 2017, it?s expected there will be minimal traffic impacts this summer. The project will continue until June of 2018.
The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge, built in 1940, provides a regional link between Maine and New Hampshire and is the critical back-up route in case of disruption on the Interstate 95 bridge. The SML carries crucial commercial traffic along the US Route 1 Bypass, including movement of people and goods to the Navy Shipyard that employs 4,200 people.
