Prospect ? The Penobscot Narrows Observatory, located on the grounds of Fort Knox at 711 Fort Knox Road in Prospect, will be open for its sixth season starting Thursday, May 3rd from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
The one-minute elevator ride will take residents and tourists alike to a 360 degree view from 437 feet above the Penobscot River, just a few miles from Penobscot Bay. Located atop the northern tower of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, the observatory offers spectacular views of the mountains, lakes and portions of Penobscot Bay.
This is only the only bridge observatory in the western hemisphere and the tallest in the world at 42 stories high!
The operating season will run through October 31st with the following dates and times:- May 4 to June 30 from 9:00am-5:00pm- July 1 to August 31 from 9:00am -6:00pm- September 1 to October 31 from 9:00am-5:00pm
The observatory is operated by the Friends of Fort Knox in conjunction with MaineDOT.
