MaineDOT receives national workplace wellness award

The Maine Department of Transportation was recently honored by the Wellness Councils of America with a Gold Level Well Workplace Award. MaineDOT is one of only seven gold level award winners from across the country, and one of three from Maine.

?MaineDOT has long recognized the importance of health and wellness in the workplace,? said MaineDOT Commissioner David Cole, ?Promoting health in the workplace makes MaineDOT more productive and enhances the well-being of our staff.?

The award recognizes quality and excellence in worksite health promotion. Award-winning companies are recognized for their proactive health and wellness programs, which enhances the overall health of employees in the organization.

At MaineDOT, the agency?s health and wellness program is now integrated into the agency?s overall core functions. Programs such as The Biggest Loser, Ergonomic Assessments and Wellness Coaching promote individual employee wellness, resulting in a healthier, more stable workforce.

MaineDOT was recognized with a gold level award, which recognizes organizations developing comprehensive programs that produce results. These programs are a strategic and integral part of the business.

?MaineDOT has worked hard to integrate a comprehensive program that reaches each of our 2,000 employees who are spread out throughout the state,? said Janice Arsenault, Director of MaineDOT?s health and wellness program. ?All of our programs are designed not only to improve health in the workplace, but also establish lifelong health habits that will benefit our employees for years to come.?
