Final Stages Of Construction On Route 201 In Farmingdale To Begin April 23 ? Completion Expected By June 30

Farmingdale, ME ? Full construction of the final 800 feet of Route 201 north from Northern Avenue in Farmingdale will begin on April 23. In this work zone, two-way traffic will be maintained during daylight hours, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Overnight single-lane closures will occur with flaggers controlling traffic as crews excavate the road bed and install drainage. The decision to schedule work to occur overnight was made to minimize impacts on traffic flow. Route 201 construction is scheduled to be completed by June 30, before the beginning of the heavy summer traffic that kicks off with the July 4th Independence Day holiday.

From Sheldon Street north, topsoil placement, grading and seeding along the sides of the roadway will occur during daylight hours. Single-lane closures with flaggers controllingtraffic will occur in the immediate area of that work as it moves northward.

John Sturgeon, Senior Project Manager for Sargent Corporation stated, "After we construct the final short portion of the roadway and complete our landscaping, sidewalks, sign and light installations along the road that we reconstructed last year, the final step will be the surfacing of the entire approximately 1.5-mile section of roadway."

The completed project will provide Route 201 drivers with two 11-foot wide lanes, with 5-foot paved shoulders, and new lighting at the Northern Avenue intersection. Pedestrians and cyclists will enjoy new crosswalks with signs and blinking caution lights, and a 5-foot wide sidewalk along the west side of the entire 1.5-mile reconstructedsection of the roadway.
