Durham Public Meeting on US Route 136

Durham ? MaineDOT will be holding a preliminary public meeting at the Durham Fire and Rescue facility located at 615 Hallowell Road on Tuesday, July 24th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to discuss future road improvements to Route 136. The area affected by June?s heavy rains begins one miles south of Snow Road and extends northerly for two miles.

Representatives of MaineDOT will be in attendance to listen to concerns, receive comments and answer questions from anyone with interest in this project.

MaineDOT was forced to take steps to ensure public safety by reducing Route 136 northbound to one lane for approximately one half mile. Alternating one-way traffic, controlled by signals is in place as crews monitor the stability of the bank along the Androscoggin River in this area. Geologic conditions combined with heavy rains in June compromised the integrity of a portion of the road due to continued erosion of the river bank.

Currently, construction of this portion of road is due to begin in August.
